4 Awesome Passengers to Fly With
There are a plethora of articles about just how horrible flying has become, especially in economy class. The seats are getting smaller, the leg room is non-existent and fellow passengers are getting out of hand from stress and/or public intoxication. There’s enough negativity in the world so I want to flip the switch and write something positive about flying. Yes, even flying in economy! I believe that your fellow passengers can make or break your flight. Thanks to the following passengers, flying economy doesn’t have to suck (even though I will never turn down a free upgrade)!
The Really Good Toddler/Kid
There are some amazingly well-behaved children on flights, even on long international flights! More often than not, the screaming kid running up and down the aisle gets the attention and complaints. The quiet child may be the anomaly but they certainly do exist and I want to shine a spotlight on them. I was stunned to find out that there was a toddler in front of me on my recent 12 hour flight. I didn’t even know he was there until I stood up to walk to the restroom. He was sitting there quietly chatting with his mom with one toy to entertain him. We didn’t even have individual entertainment sets in front of every seat! He was that good! Before you judge the baby/child on board, they might really surprise you!
The Helpers
For those who are vertically challenged, it can be rather difficult to reach for your bag in the overhead compartment. It can possibly come tumbling down on you if you don’t have a good grip on it. But then there are these awesome men and women who have either helped you lift your bag into the compartment or taken it down for you. There are also people who go above and beyond the call of duty to help out a fellow traveler. One of the most notable stories of 2015 is that of a lady who helped a stressed out mother by holding and calming her crying baby. It’s these small (and huge) acts of kindness that can make someone’s day!
The Friendly Local of the City/Country You’re Visiting
When you’re in the mood to chat and the person next to you is also friendly, you might end up with secret local tips for the place you are visiting! This is a bonus if your seatmate is a big foodie. He or she can recommend local dishes you simply have to try and restaurants that aren’t in any guide books. If you’re lucky, that person might even end up becoming your tour guide/friend!
The Robot
There’s that person who plops down on his/her seat and passes out for 20 hours. They don’t wake up for food or even to use the restroom (you know this because they’re your seatmate). You start to think the passenger is a robot and is in energy saving mode. You’re also secretly jealous and want to know what pill they took and can they share? If this person is seated at the window, you will be assured that they’ll never climb over you to get to the restroom. A restful flight ahead!
